About Faith

Hi, I’m Faith Poe. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a rip-roaring rollercoaster ride with me, as I’ve experienced more misadventures than you could “shake a cocktail stick at.”

I survived a shipwreck in the Mediterranean, a robbery with two guns at my head, a Cat-5 hurricane, epidemics, riots, illnesses, accidents, financial loss, fatal allergies, sexual assault, deaths of loved ones, and less severe calamities that plague us all.

Bohemian Globetrotter
My forthcoming book, Laughing My Baggage Off: Travel Called: What Could Possibly Go Wrong? will transport you along with me on my world travels as you discover that no matter where I roamed, worked, lived, or played, misadventures seemed to follow.
Shaken and stirred by each setback, I read all the self-help books, went through therapy, and embarked on various spiritual quests to find meaning in life’s tragedies. I walked barefoot on 40 ft. of burning coals in Hawaii, joined shamans in sweat lodges in Mexico, visited healers in remote areas of Brazil, toured Buddhist temples in Taiwan, sought advice from psychics, received transmissions from mediums, and soaked in crystal baths. All in an attempt to find the ever-elusive meaning of my suffering.

My conclusion: One door does not always close so that another can open. Especially when it’s deadlocked from the outside. An Italian friend said they have an expression, “Life is like a tire that goes round and round with good luck and bad.” Well, mine has a blowout! And not everything happens for a reason.
Sometimes life just sucks.
Yet, the answer does indeed lie with the Spirits. Spirits, with a twist! Herein lies the birth of my upcoming book, this website, and a YouTube channel, where we create the perfect spirited or free-spirited drink to commemorate the end of every disaster. In this humorous look at life’s traumas, I, a.k.a. the Calamity Alchemist, unpack the lessons, laughter, and libations as the perfect elixir to transmute tragedy to triumph.

Witty Wordsmith

My lifelong love of writing led to a degree in journalism, where the art of the written word served me throughout my career. I also used this craft to change the narrative on every misfortune that came my way. No matter how many times I hit rock bottom, my motto was “bottoms up and carry on.” After all, every hour should be laughter hour.

Gypsy of the Sea
With a passion for globe-trotting and a call to sea too strong to ignore, I’ve enjoyed a three-decade career in the always unpredictable cruise ship industry. When at sea, you caught me speaking at a live event or hosting a seminar to promote tours or retail shopportunites. You could have even woken up and gone to sleep with me while watching me on a 24/7 onboard television station.
I also worked on land and continued to do business with the cruise ship industry as “Mar-Ka-ching” Director for an upscale jewelry retailer. I spent winters in the Caribbean and summers in Alaska according to the high season for ship visits.

Cruising through Life

As an experienced sailor with hundreds of cruises across 20 different lines under my belt, I wanted to do something exciting, something spectacular, to celebrate my 100th DIFFERENT cruise ship.
What better way to celebrate than on Virgin Voyages’ 50th Anniversary Celebration cruise with Richard Branson in Greece. And what a surprise to learn the ship name is Resilient Lady!
My favorite part of traveling is being blessed to have friendships with people from hundreds of countries worldwide. As an avid world traveler and gypsy-of-the-sea, I unpack only long enough to plan my next destination.
